So I’m semi-participating in this cool online group I found called ‘Top 5 Wednesday’. Seeing as I already have a commitment on Wednesdays, I thought I’d do it on Friday instead.
This week’s topic is Top 5 Fictional Cities. If you know me, prepare to not be surprised at all. I may be a little biased…
5. Lothlorien. How could you not love a city that’s built in the trees? This beautiful city is the home of Celeborn and Galadriel in the Lord of the Rings, and Galadriel’s magic makes it both a safe and beautiful place.
4. Minas Tirith. This fortress city home is the capital of Gondor. It spans seven levels built into the hill, and houses the Kings and Stewards of Gondor as well as the white tree of Gondor. It’s just a little too close to Mordor for my liking…
3. Hobbiton. Ah, the Shire. How could Hobbiton NOT be on someone’s favourite fictional cities list? The green fields and rolling hills, jolly Hobbits in their Hobbit holes and of course the peace and quiet. A lovely little place to visit I think!
2. Edoras. A town perched atop a lone peak, surrounded by taller mountains, Edoras definitely sounds beautiful. Both Tolkien’s descriptions and Peter Jackon’s film draw heavily on Anglo-Saxon and Viking mythology and architecture for the city, which just makes it appeal to me even more. Oh, and did I mention the horses?? And the Great Hall with it’s thatched roof and golden details? Amazing!
1. Rivendell. If I could live anywhere, it would be Rivendell. I love the way it’s described in both the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, I love the illustrations of it by various artists, and I love the way it was brought to life in the films. Basically I just love Rivendell.
And just because I REALLY couldn’t chose just five….the honourable mentions go to Lake-town and Dale (mostly their depictions of them in the Hobbit films).
